In happier news, I don't think I got to mention it before but I did see Frankenstein for a second time on Monday. This time with Benedict as the Creature. The two performances were both wonderful and I enjoyed both for very different reasons. But I will say that I preferred Benedict's Victor. In general, Benedict brought a lot more vulnerability to both roles. It's a powerful and fantastic play either way. And the music. Absolutely loved the music. And the set. And everything about it, really.

Since I spent about 7 hours in Japantown, I also took some pictures while I was there.

Pictures done this way since LJ won't let me insert an image within the entry atm )

Went to Japantown today with mom. A nice, rainy, grey day. We got lunch at Isobune and I got a few things from the market for a Japanese snack package I'm offering at [ profile] help_japan (banner/link at bottom of entry). After that, we went to the post office on 24th Street to drop off my student loan payment and pick up some boxes for shipping the snack package. While we were in the area, I also got a lemon drop cupcake and a mint chocolate mini cupcake. I ate the latter before I could take a picture of it though ;)

Just a few pictures from today... )

Aaaaaaand here is the link to my Japanese snack package over at [ profile] help_japan (which for some reason my mind wants to read as 'halp_japan' 0_o):

My offering of icons can still be found over here! Speaking of, [ profile] entwashian and [ profile] tresa_cho, y'all are awesome ♥♥♥♥

I was going to have two days off in a row this week - tomorrow and Thursday - but the other ASM asked to switch with me, so I work tomorrow. The bad - I don't have two days off in a row. The good - I get Saturday off. I can't even remember the last time I had any bit of a weekend off. So my mom and I are going to Japantown for the opening of something.

Mark your calendar...Saturday, August 15 is the Grand Opening of NEW PEOPLE, a unique destination at 1746 Post Street in the heart of San Francisco's historic Japantown. There will be all-day outdoor music, performance events, and more. Details will be announced soon.

NEW PEOPLE--a 20,000 square foot building distinguished by its striking three-story transparent glass façade--will feature the latest examples of Japanese popular culture expressed through film, art, fashion, and special events.

A spacious, 143 seat cinema space with cutting edge sound and projection equipment, will be housed on the building's lower level and will be the soul of the NEW PEOPLE experience. It will screen some of the latest and hottest films from Japan, as well as classics, documentaries, and anime, making it the only cinema of its type in the U.S.

An entire floor of the building will be devoted to several distinctive boutiques showcasing trendsetting clothing labels from Japan, including Baby, The Stars Shine Bright (Tokyo), Black Peace Now (Tokyo), 6%DOKIDOKI (Tokyo), and SOU•SOU (Kyoto). A short-term rotating storefront will feature a new brand every two to three months. These shops--several of which are pioneers of Harajuku, a vibrant district in Tokyo renowned for its unique designers--will make their retail debut in the U.S. at NEW PEOPLE. The building also will house a café, an inventive NEW PEOPLE retail store, and a 2,000 square foot art gallery providing an important venue for a new generation of artists inspired by Japanese pop culture.

Man, it feels like even longer since I've been to Jtown. Good food, music, magazines with Toma in them, delicious (probably crack-filled) Japanese candy. Mmmm....

Now I'm going to watch the Teen Choice Awards, since I missed the beginning last night, and then I guess I should go to bed. 'Night!

Last night I couldn't sleep. I finally fell asleep around 3am. Only to have my grandma wake me up at 8 :/

I have today and tomorrow off so my mom and I went to Japantown this morning. Got my usual magazines and some food. I got my boss into melon-flavored bread, so she wanted me to get some for her. I also got some snacks for this Thursday when my friend is coming up from San Diego to watch Star Trek with me.

Then I went to the mall so I could deposit my checks, buy Mother's Day and birthday cards, and get some new bras. Ugh. I spent so much today. And I lent my mom quite a bit so she could pay a credit card bill and rent this month. But the bras at least were on sale and I combined my stuff with my friend's so we could use her coupon. So instead of buy one, get one half off, it turned into buy one, get one free. Not too shabby.

While bra shopping in Lane Bryant, I randomly bumped into my friend! We end up trying on some clothes and then going out to eat. That was a nice surprise. It was also nice to hear her say I've lost quite a bit of weight. Granted, not eating will do that to a person. But hopefully soon I'll have this whole stomach/gallbladder thing sorted out.

Anyhoo... I ♥ dorky!Toma

Although for me it was just another Sunday. Thankfully though, a Sunday I did not have to work.

My mom and I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. We got there early so we could get parking, but we were so early, they were still setting everything up. So we went shopping in one of the little markets to kill some time. Then I went to the bookstore and bought *cough* a couple *cough* magazines. After we put our food and magazines in the car, we went out into the main area to get some food (beef skewers, takoyaki, and udon) and watch the taiko drummers. It was a lovely day for San Francisco - sunny, but there was a breeze so it wasn't hot. It's too bad I'll in be in San Jose next weekend - George Takei is going to be the Grand Marshal in the parade.

We entered the raffle to possibly win 2 round trip tickets to Japan. God, that would be fantastic *dreams* And since it is Easter, but I don't have a basket, I bought myself a couple chocolate eggs with toys inside. One is cute and the other is a T-rex.

In other news, Amazon is being a douche and I don't want to talk about Red Dwarf because I want to pretend it isn't all over again :(

I spent way too much money today. I mean, my mom's going to pay me back for what she got, but still. Tomorrow is payday too. Since we both had the day off from work, we went to Japantown for sushi. While there, I had to go to the bookstore and look through the magazines for any Toma. (Un)fortunately I found four magazines with him in them. I mean, so what if I already have the scans? :P Then I needed a crepe (banana, Nutella, and whipped cream).

On the way home, we stopped off at the Daiso by Serramonte. My mom had never been in one before, so we spent quite a while in there. I got a bento box and accessories because I want to bring my lunch to work and really try cooking/preparing meals. Plus, it was only $1.50 ^_^

In other news, the two most recent Scrubs were hilarious. As was watching Toma try to cook <3

And I just ate two slices of Hawaiian pizza and will probably be regretting that decision very soon. I don't even like pineapple. I just had a craving...
