Since sherlockland seems to be mostly dead, a kind soul has started a new Sherlock Land Comm. There are only two teams right now, Team Passion and Team Logic, and it looks pretty active atm. So join and have fun =D
I'm not sure about the actual terminology, but a land comm is a community that you join and everyone is broken into teams (often you'll apply for the one you want but you may or may not get it). Challenges are posted such as pimping the community somewhere, making icons, writing drabbles, solving puzzles, etc. and you get points for participating and sometimes winning (like the icons you'd enter would be anonymous until after voting). Any points you get count for your team and points are added up at the end of rounds.
Basically it's just a fun way to be involved in a fandom, be creative, and maybe get to know the people on your team a little better. Or the other team. It's all for fun anyway :)
Some are more open-ended like Scifiland where the teams are things like 'hero' 'villian' 'antihero' and so on or Whedonland where one of his shows is a team like 'Buffy' 'Angel' 'Dollhouse'. This one is specifically for BBC!Sherlock and since we're just starting out there are only two teams: Passion and Logic.
Hope that made some sense and I didn't confuse you even more! You should try one if it sounds fun. They usually ask that you participate in an activity at least every two weeks or so just so you're not taking up space on a team without helping us get points :D
The thing is, all I can do is write, and I'm not good at drabbles; I prefer longer stories. I don't make icons or do art and I'm only so-so at solving puzzles, judging by my experience playing Professor Layton. :-) Getting to know other people in the fandom does sound like fun, but I don't think I'm suited for that type of activity.
Hmmm, well what really matters is participation. There's usually no voting for most challenges and from what I've seen so far of this one at least, there's quite a bit of variety in the challenges. And you only need to participate in 1 every 2 weeks so something should catch your eye. Here's the list of the current challenges just to give you an idea :)
