I know I'm late to the party, but I just finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It took me forever but that's my fault. Once I really started, I didn't want to put it down. It didn't feel long at all. More like I didn't want it to end. I had no idea how it was all going to come together, but as I was reading the final chapters, it felt like a giant smack to my forehead. A big ol' D'OH! moment. However, I don't want to spoil anything if for some reason you haven't read it yet. All I'll say is what are you waiting for?!

Now, I've read that the UK version is longer than ours and I was wondering if anyone has read both or knows if there are any important differences.

Matt Smith on The Late Late Show was so adorably awkward. There is no better word for that man other than adorkable. You can watch the interview here.

Benedict Cumberbatch was looking mighty foine @ The Prince's Trust Gala.

*flails like Kermit*

Heck, I only read American Gods last year...just because a former co-worker insisted that I would love it. XD And it really was quite good...

I've heard good things about Neil Gaiman, but I'll admit, it wasn't until someone wrote a BBC!Sherlock/American Gods crossover and I heard NG was writing a Doctor Who episode that I really took an interest :D

It's such a rich and detailed world. You start thinking that maybe this isn't quite as crazy as you might have thought at first. Have you read any of this other works? I'm wondering what to read next. I was leaning towards Good Omens since I've heard really good things about that as well.

I STILL HAVE *checks time* TWO HOURS TO GO, BUT THEN YES, I'LL BE ALL OVER PSYCH LIKE WHITE ON RICE.

Yeah, that's kind of his style. :) I like Neverwhere the most. Ansai Boys is good, it's a kind-of but not-really sequel to American Gods.

oh I forgot about that. It was a good episode. :)

I very much like his style *nods* Looks like I'll just have to add the collection to my 'must read' list then. Works for me!

Yeah, there are some downsides to living on the west coast. Not many, but a few ;)

American Gods is one of my favorites. Such an excellent read, and I loved the way everything tied together. You're right about the head-smacking, though, if you're referring to the name thing. Like, oh my god.

Good Omens is also excellent, although much more light-hearted, despite being about the apocalypse. :P

There was a lot of head-smacking for me and I suspect there's more to come. Which name thing are you referring to? There's just so much and I don't think I've even processed it all. 0_0

Sounds like my kind of book then :D

Low Key Lyesmith. I should have realized, with the title, that it was Loki, but it took me a while, I think up until Wednesday is describing his favorite con - the two-man job?

Oh yes! And with me being such a Stargate/mythology fan, I really wanted to *headdesk*

Right now, I'm reading some discussions on the book and it's amazing how much I'm still trying to figure out / piece together. I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything really big ;)

_good omens_ is fun. i also recommend _the graveyard book_ which is kind of a peter pan / jungle book thing.

I am saving that episode with Matt Smith for when I really n eed it. I have seen bits though.

Benedict looks amazing.

Just wanted to say hi * hug* I am super behind on LJ still but probably will be popping in a few times a week trying to get caught up.

How are you feeling? What was going on that you needed an ultrasound?

Hello again! *hug*

No worries. Glad you're back in the land of LJ. I'm doing alright. I've just been having some issues with the always fun bladder region and the usual stuff like UTI were ruled out. Fun times, yes? ;)

I went through a period where I bought everything of Gaiman's that I could afford, haha, so I've read American Gods and am going to squee with you!

The sequel (ish thing) Anansi Boys is also good, if you're looking for more reading material :-P

I seem to be entering that phase myself, which sucks because I don't have a job and really shouldn't be spending money. BUT if I'm going to have some free time, I might as well read something good =D

Ooooh! Perhaps that'll be my next one then.

Indeed! And the thing with Gaiman's stuff is that I find I enjoy reading it again and again, so, you know . . . investment! ;-)
