Gotcha

Santa Cruz was nice except my favorite coffee shop is closed :( It's not like I'm ever over there, but still. I'd like to know it was there just in case I ever was too. RIP Bad Ass.

Friday night my friend and I didn't go to sleep until 4am (I had been up early, worked, and then took the bus and train that day). I went over her friends' place and we ate and talked geek. I guess they were surprised by how nerdy I was and after I said something in particular, one of them said "Okay, I like you. You can stay." We bonded over Star Trek, Star Wars, Threadless.com, and even though it had been a while since they saw it, they knew about Red Dwarf. After that we walked around and took pictures. Even though it was like 2am and kinda cold. Unfortunately they came out kind of blurry but I'll probably post some on my Tumblr. I finally got a burrito from my favorite place over there. I also got a Doctor Who magazine. Not one with a poster, but for the moment at least I have a holographic cover.

Saturday we walked around, got some frozen yogurt, and watched Kick Ass. I really enjoyed it. It was more violent than I guess I had expected and there was a lot more plot than I thought there would be. While it's not something I need to see again RIGHT NOW, Hit Girl is now one of my all time favorite characters ever.

Sunday morning we were supposed to go to the Cherry Blossom festival with one of her friends. He was going to drive. The night before, he basically flaked on us and we were trying to figure out what time we'd have to leave if we had to take the train and bus there, but thankfully (and miraculously) my mom offered to pick us up from Santa Cruz and take us there. So she got us early and we hung out at the festival for a couple hours. My friend had never been to Japantown so I showed her around the main mall area and my favorite foods, restaurants, and shops. After a while we got hungry so we went to get food, but the lines for the food stands were ridiculous and I only got garlic fries but we also went into the market and got some food there (mostly sweets). It was also the day of the main parade so there wasn't as much other stuff going on and my friend had to catch a train so we had to leave early. Next year I think I'll go on a day where I can spend the whole day there and preferably without the parade. But I had a good time. And the weekend before it had been storming, so I can't really complain. Oh, I also found out I really like mitarashi dango.

I work the rest of this week. Tomorrow I work my whole shift as the only manager and Wednesday I work a stretch :/ I have Saturday off and even though I'm invited to a party, I might just stay at home and sleep. I can only go out every so often. Being social wears me out. It's one thing if I meet new people who are geeky. We can chat about things. I'm actually quite charming. But give me a group of 'normal' strangers and I don't know what to talk about. I can make conversation, but it's painful.

Anyhoo, Doctor Who was wonderful again. Needed a bit more action!Amy perhaps, but it was touching, insane fun. Matt Smith did a really good job there. And here is an Eleven/Amy vid because even if I'm not sure I ship them exactly, I can't help but think they are adorable and sweet together. Leave feedback for the vid-maker here.

So... I need this series to have more episodes already. I need fanvids that are more than just a minute long. Also, I'm a total hypocrite. I didn't understand Ten/Rose shippers but I seem to be just fine with Eleven/Amy. Even though the true OTP is Doctor/Master and/or Doctor/TARDIS. Yes you can have TWO OTPs with the Doctor because he has TWO hearts.

Eh, I'm always a multiple shipper anyway. Even when I have an OTP in a fandom, like with LoM where I only ship Sam/Gene I get why people would like Sam/Annie or some other pairing. So go ahead and ship Eleven/Amy! Also, really with every Doctor it's different. I mean, I shipped Nine/Rose but I hated the idea of Ten/Rose. I shipped Ten/Master, but that doesn't mean I would ship every Doctor with a Master. It's all about the chemistry.

It's funny I never quite get it when people express "guilt" about multiple shipping. Not that you were here but I've seen people do it. I guess, partly with me, it's that in real life I don't believe in the idea of soul mates. Some people do and and they seem to translate that idea into fandom or something, with their OTPs.

I usually can understand why people ship most pairings even if I don't really see it myself. And that's true about the Doctors being different and having different chemistry with each companion/Master. That's part of the reason I find it odd for me to even kind of ship Eleven/Amy. I love the description of the Doctor as a serial fall-in-lover but he's too at home with the universe, life, everything to really... I don't know. Settle down? And I know that's not what the Doctor is about and there's no rule that anyone has to or SHOULD settle down. But I guess I am one of those soul mate/OTP people. I know in real life you can love many and have wonderful relationships with a variety of people. I guess I just like the fantasy of finding the ONE and I like to imagine that with my favorite pairings because even if it never happens to me, at least I know they'll be happy.

Which sounds ridiculous, but I guess that's why it's fantasy ;)

Anyhoo, most of the time my 'shipping' doesn't even necessarily mean anything sexual. I just think they're fun and should spend as much time as possible being adorable together.

Oh, I should have been more clear, I actually like the concept of soul mates in fiction, I just don't believe in it in real life. It doesn't make sense in real life and I think believing in it, the idea that there is one and only one person out there for you can actually be harmful. What I meant was that it seems that some who really believe in the idea have trouble accepting it when they want to ship a character with more than one character. Which I find odd!

Of course, some people have to have a ship in order to watch a show so that could be part of it too. And not just with jdramas or kdramas where that is the whole point but with any show, they need a pairing to root for. I never start a show with the intention of shipping, I only get into a ship if it clicks for me.

Oh, yes, I get that from your ships. With me, I tend to only say "ship" when I mean a pairing I see romantically or sexually. Otherwise I just use the term "friendship".

While I don't usually seek out pairings when I start a new show, I am guilty of almost always focusing on one. I can still enjoy the show for what it is, but having a ship does make it that much more interesting and fun (fandom-wise) for me.

I guess a lot of my ships I can see romantically/sexually, but it isn't something I focus on? I can see it happening in the right circumstances, but all I really want is them to have more screen time together. Which is probably how most people ship anyway - Enjoy them onscreen together and read fanfiction to explore the other possibilities. I guess I'm just used to hearing the few but very vocal fans who demand that their ship is canon and get pissy when maybe what they get isn't quite to their liking.

Yes, that's how I ship for the most part.

I don't get that, especially since writers usually screw up couples when they get them together. At least if it is early in the series. I can think of a few that work, like John/Aeryn from Farscape but usually it is better if a couple gets together at the end of a show or not at all.

I remember back when The X-Files was on, I was a huge M/S shipper and my friend wasn't as much of one. She said that if they got together, the show would be over/it would ruin what they had going. I said that I agreed. I loved reading about them, but if they ever did get together on the show, it would have to be at the end.

More often than not, writers tend to screw up romantic relationships. Or the relationships get old within the plots of the show so they have to 'shake things up' to make it interesting again. For the most part, I trust the fans to do their favorite pairings justice.
