"Understandably upset over her fellow Californian's decision to prohibit gay marriage, aurally-inclined lesbian Melissa Etheridge has vowed to withhold the buckets of money the state would have reaped from her taxes."

Full story over at ONTD.

PS What's with the new profile? Do not want.

ETA: For what it's worth, I complained about the new profile page here. In like an 1.5 hours, there are now 32 pages of comments. Here's my comment.

(Thank you [livejournal.com profile] mrowrr for the link)

ETA 2: I completely forgot about the communities. That's even worse. Especially for people who are just joining LJ. You know, honestly, if the profiles and such looked like this when I was thinking about joining, I'm not sure I would have. They seem very confusing and intimidating. Bad move, LJ. Bad move.

Please keep posting links! We have to design a magazine for my typography class, based around a social justice issue. Because we're only technically designing one issue, I chose to do mine on gay rights // all the horrible propositions. Having all these links are incredibly helpful. =)

Thankfully, the class is fairly liberal, so I don't expect any crazies...

If I find any more, I'll be sure to pass them along ^_^

Sounds like an interesting class/project. Good luck!

And here's hoping you don't get any crazies

Thanks. It's a pretty big project (worth 25%), so being interested in the topic is a good thing.

I never bother to test these things. Maybe I should and then I'd have time to get used to it before it just... appears.

I don't really like the set up. It feels to wide or something. Oh well. C'est la vie ;)

Me too. And I hope other people in the limelight do something along those lines too. Goodness knows people will keep fighting, but famous people doing stuff always seems to get more attention :)

yeah definitely.

i really feel like this is a time where people need to realize who they are an what is important to them. especially gay hollywood. i mean, i dont want to sound all...i dunno, like one of those people who thinks that gay people should be outed for the greater good. cause, you know how big i am on gay rights. but i also think that at this point we all have a responsability to stand up for ourselves and the gay community, especially if we are a part of it.

When I first saw the new profile page, I thought it hadn't loaded properly or something. It just looks... well, they could have done much better. And for them to be all "Well, it's staying that way and there's nothing you/we can do about it so :P" is not a very good idea :/

Ugh okay good, I wasn't the only one they switched. Silly LJ :/

I just wonder who actually saw it and thought, 'Yeah, that looks good. Let's do that.' Because it looks like coding didn't get read or something and the page loaded wrong :/

The change in profile style was first announced here and at the time people were given an option to beta test and to offer feedback over at [livejournal.com profile] lj_design

I don't remember the announcement, but I did see the beta option. I (perhaps foolishly) didn't bother because I thought it would be an optional thing. I guess I learned my lesson a little late.

I just don't like that it looks like a page that didn't load correctly. Or the fact that they changed it at all. Were they getting complaints or something?

I don't know why the changed it to be honest, and I admit, I liked it a little bit better the other way as well, my point was simply that a lot of people in the community are going "OMG they just sprung this on us! They didn't tell us!" and my point to that is well yeah they DID say something.

Now whether or not the feedback was ignored or not, I have no idea, and if a large majority of people were to point THAT out - i.e. to say "Yes, I offered feedback and it was clearly ignored" then I would say there was a legitimate gripe - but for people to say they were not warned or given an option for feedback is simply not true.

Just my $0.02 worth. :)

This is true. I'm reading the comments over there, and while some of them do give honest/actual reasons for not liking the new profile, it has turned into a gif and sparkly text party. Which is more likely to be ignored anyway :/

Exactly and that's what frustrates me and why I think the vast majority of LJ gripes are NOT taken seriously - it's the minority that formulates their arguments in legitimate, well thought out ways instead of as you said the sparkle text party.

Maybe its because those who are likely to formulate their thoughts well are those of us who are more likely to kind of shrug and say "Meh, what's done is done."
