WONDERCON!

Just got back from WonderCon! Met [livejournal.com profile] sharkshark and another whose name I can't remember because I suck. But I had so much fun. For the Doctor Who panel, I was the closest I've ever been to the front. The panel featured Toby Haynes (director of 'The Pandorica Opens' 'The Big Bang' 'A Christmas Carol' and the 2-parter series premiere), Neil Gaiman, and Mark Sheppard (the guy who is in everything). It was moderated by Chris Hardwick. When we first entered the room, they gave everyone a Doctor Who Insider magazine and an awesome t-shirt (pictures are under the cut). There's a really good write up of the panel here (copy/pasted from io9) which I am linking to because I also suck at remember awesome details. There will be some spoilers though, so enter at your own risk. Including a hilariously awesome line from Neil Gaiman's episode =D It was great to hear from people who had not only worked on the show, but who are also huge fans of it as well. ♥♥♥♥♥♥

After the panel, [livejournal.com profile] sharkshark and I met up with the other LJ person. While we were standing around the food area just talking, Toby Haynes walks by. [livejournal.com profile] sharkshark stops him and asks for his autograph and he said that nobody's ever asked for it before ♥♥♥ I got him to sign my DWI magazine. I also ♥ him even more for doing that because at the panel he had mentioned that he was dyslexic. Ooooh! And not only has he directed some of the best DW episodes, but he's also going to be directing one of the new Sherlock eps as well!!

After that, we walked around a bit, but I had pretty much come just for the panel. There was a booth that had free sci-fi books though, so I picked three of them just for the hell of it. Around 2, I called my mom to get me. While I was waiting to get picked up ([livejournal.com profile] sharkshark waited with me) a group of people walked past. One of the guys in the group looked my way, did a double take, and then all of a sudden ran towards me. We were wearing the same shirt so he was running up to give me a high five, LOL. I slapped his hand and he ran back to his group of friends. This was the shirt, btw.

So that's pretty much my story! I'm rubbish at con write-ups but if you have any questions I can answer to the best of my abilities ;P

Now I'm off to shower and maybe go to sleep early so I can get up and make my way over to Jtown for Frankenstein tomorrow. Oh, the other LJ person we met had gone yesterday as well, but they complained that we got the wrong showing so they refunded their tickets. Why don't I complain more often dammit! *facepalm*

The few pictures I took )

TL;DR

We had the VP come visit our store on Tuesday, so the week or so leading up to that visit was crazy. I only had one day off last week, I worked from noon to midnight the night before, and the day of I came in at 7:30am and couldn't even leave until the next person got there at 5. However, I'm hearing that the visit went very well and that they liked us. So it was worth it in the end. Still tired, though.

Today my friend and I hung out with our other friend and her baby. She's a month and a couple days old now <3 Tomorrow I go see District 9 and sleep.

Now, a couple of things:

1. Trailer for the new Boondock Saints movie!! )

2. The best Boosh picture ever Y/N?

I love them and their lack of shame.

3. I really want to go to w00tstock but it's on a Monday and I don't know if I can :/ Adam Savage AND Wil Wheaton are going to be there too *pouts*

4. I had taken that fandom survey thing last night because I'm a sucker for filling out surveys and polls and whatnot. Some (if not all) of the questions had me like o_0 Then I find out today that they had actually changed questions after people had already answered them. If the poor wording and lack of any real knowledge about fandom (or people in general) wasn't enough, how can you even claim to be scientific when you do something like that? There's definitely a lot of fail surrounding that whole project and I kind of wish my curiosity hadn't gotten the better of me and I had never filled out the stupid thing. I feel especially sorry for anyone whose fic was specifically mentioned in the survey. It seems that the survey has been taken down for now.

5. I want to see this movie so bad. Even though I'm sure it'll leave me more depressed than anything. The trailer alone is breaking my heart.

6. On a happier note, I bought a cute shirt from Old Navy for $5. Yay clearance! And I have a Push Pop. Yay sugar!

I'm glad everyone seemed to have survived VAD (Velociraptor Awareness Day). I assume everybody is alive and well. I personally spent the day wearing my 'When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth' shirt from Threadless.com. I also went to the mall with my sister and bought another pair of those awesome dinosaur earrings from Hot Topic, because like an idiot I broke my first pair. I'm just glad they still have them; I thought they weren't around any more. Well, I can't find them on the website, but they had them in the store.

Oh! I also bought two action figures from FYE - original!Kirk and original!Spock. I don't know why I didn't have them already, but I'm just glad they had both. I'm going to take them with me when I go to the midnight showing of the new ST movie *nods*

After the mall, we all went home and did nothing until it was time to leave again. My sister and I went to go see Jeff Dunham live at the HP Pavilion. As usual, it was great. I was worried it wouldn't be that funny because this is the 3rd time I've seen him live and I've seen all his specials on Comedy Central, but he had more new stuff than I thought he would. And it was good. It won't be nearly as funny if I tried to tell you about it. For instance, if I were to say 'smushed pussy,' you might make this face o_0, and understandably so. Anyway, it was funny and I got a Peanut shirt <3 Oh, and it was Jeff's birthday. After the show, some people brought out a cake shaped like a suitcase with Achmed, Peanut, and Walter on top and sang 'Happy Birthday.'

And now I'm going to clean out my sister's computer of all the shit I don't need any more, and put what I still want to keep in one file so they can transfer it to an external hard drive and then reformat this thing. I've already erased like 5 gigs worth of stuff and I have at least 5 more gigs. I also have to clean out the guest room of all my shit. Take home what I can, throw away what I don't want, and have them put the rest in the attic. Times like this reminds me that I don't really live anywhere. I mean, I live at my mom's, but I don't have a room. I don't really have any personal space. I won't lie - that's a rather depressing thought.

However, the other day I set up a savings account, so I'll start putting money away and maybe not too long from now I'll actually be able to get my own place.

Since this entry seemed to be getting a little depressing towards the end, I'm going to end it with this preview of a special on/about/with Toma (I can't wait for his new drama!!):

Some (more) good things:

* Psych was hilarious last night XD
* This icon *points*
* I have the house to myself this weekend. The family is at the cabin.
* I woke up about an hour ago and had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. I also unfortunately burned my tongue on a hot chocolate chip, but small price.
* I'm going to spend all day watching movies and generally being lazy (except for when I have to do laundry because I have no clothes).
* Hamlet (Facebook News Feed Edition). Thank you [livejournal.com profile] courtknee!
* Someone posted this at [livejournal.com profile] calmallamadown - Noel Fielding Is a Lesbian

* Also, two adorable clips on YouTube of David and Gillian quizzing each other. )

HAPPY PI DAY!!

According to Wikipedia, "The first Pi Day celebration was held at the San Francisco exploratorium in 1988, with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, and then consuming fruit pies; the museum has since added pizza pies to its Pi Day menu."

I love the Exploratorium. I haven't been there in ages. I think not since high school when we were required to go for our physics class.

The Grand Reopening of the California Academy of Sciences!!!!!

202 days. I am so there.

Reasons I'm a geek (from today only):

1. I got excited when I went to see what time it was and it said 10:13. So excited that I rushed to open a new entry before it changed.

2. While reading an article for my class, the author mentioned Frantz Fanon and I might have squeed a bit over his last name.

3. We were talking about Egypt today in my Origins of Complex Societies class and all I could think about was Daniel and Stargate, especially when talking about Abydos.

4. In the same class, we were talking about different periods in Egyptian history, and instead of Naqada, I kept thinking/writing Naquadah.

------------------

On an unrelated, non-geeky note, WTF is wrong with people?!

And I wished I had known about this earlier, but I'm glad I've seen it now. He took Ben from Matt! That's awesome XD

This entry doesn't have a picture and it looks naked :(

Much better.
