Today's picture might creep some people out. Maybe? IDK.

I have a condition called Dermatographic urticaria. I think I've written about this before, but I can't remember. Anyhoo, I have very sensitive skin and I get welts SUPER easily. Like, if I bump my hand into something (not a scratch, but just a bump), I can get welts. I'll be talking to someone and they'll go 'Are you okay?!' and I'll say 'Yeah, why?' A part of my body itched (face, neck, etc.) and I scratch it thinking nothing of it, and then minutes later, it looks like I was mauled by a velociraptor. They don't hurt though. The area feels warm, but that's about it. I didn't even know it was a 'condition' for most of my life. I assumed everyone had it for a while and then I just assumed I had very sensitive skin. Never really thought about it being an allergic reaction or my body being odd. My mom says I wasn't born with it, but I don't remember ever NOT having it. *shrug* My friends used to try and scratch stuff into my skin all the time and I would try to freak people out by scratching 666 into my arm. I... had (have?) issues ^_^

Says 'HELLO' in case you can't read it :)

Ummmm creepy closeup is creepy?

And from what I've read, there's no known cause (just theories) and no real cure either. Nothing but questions for us skin writers.

Whoa! I have never even heard about that before.

Just remember to use your powers for mischief good! I mean GOOD!

Apparently it's pretty rare. Or some people will get welts, just not those dramatic ones I get. And I'm even more in the minority because they don't hurt me. At least I think that's the case. There's very little info out there about it.

I'll do my best! ;D

Wow! That's the first time I've heard of skin writing. As Spock would say, "Fascinating!"

XD

I'm so used to it, people who don't get welts seem weird to me, LOL.

in which the skin becomes raised and inflamed when stroked, scratched, rubbed, and sometimes even slapped.

omg does that mean if someone slapped your back or something there'd be a welt in the shape of their handprint?? THAT'S SO COOL. I MEAN IDEK LIKE. most skin disorders cause some kind of itching or pain or you know a BAD symptom -- but this just seems plain fascinating to me LMFAO.

Pretty much, yeah :D

From what I've read, for some people this condition does actually hurt or is uncomfortable, but it's never been a problem for me. I rather like it myself. I don't know what I'd do if one day I wrote on my skin and nothing happened. As it is, when someone scratches themselves I look at them all suspicious like -_- and wonder where their welt is, LOL.

Oooh, that's really interesting. And pretty :o I have a few friends with urticaria but it's the annoying and painful one, so the one where you could write a book on your body.

Before it hit me that I could look up what it was online, I never even thought that it could be painful for people. They were talking about possible cures and treatments in articles and I was like 'I'd never get rid of this' but after hearing how some people really suffer with this (and other types) I feel bad that so little is actually understood about it :/

Well, I had never heard of it before! It's so strange that it depends on the people who have it. Yours never hurt? And it just fades after a while I suppose? Do you think it could evolve one day and become painful or turn into plain urticaria? Oh man, I'm so curious xD

The annoying thing is that they don't even know what causes it, so they can't even say why people react differently. I've never had pain with mine, which I've had as long as I can remember. As long as I don't scratch too hard, but it doesn't take much to get a welt out of me. The scratch gets red and warm and in a few minutes the red will go away and raised skin will take its place. And yeah, give it like half an hour and the bump will go down, I'll get a faint line, and then that'll just fade away. Since I've had it for years already, I don't see why it would change, but then again, from what I've read it can come and go for no apparent reason. So who knows. I'll say that even though I've lived with it forever, I have no idea why or what it is. But feel free to ask any questions and I'll answer what I can about my own experiences at least :)

Heck, feel free to request something and I'll try to write it on my arm, LOL.
