So hey, I seemed to have gotten a pretty powerful virus from Mediafire. *sigh* The kind that pops up an 'antivirus' warning and tells you to download a program because it has found HUNDREDS of problems. It's called Antivira or something like that. Now my poor computer is with the Geek Squad for 3-5 days and I'm out more money than I'd care to admit. Just what we need right now. That money could have been for food or student loans. I'm really pissed right now, both at the virus and at myself. I hate Mediafire. Everyone has pop ups, but theirs have always seemed really bad. And it was just to see scans of Toma. And I'm still so tired. Mom needed help at 3am and then every now and then for the rest of the day so I barely got any sleep. I'm so tired/frustrated I just want to cry. And then I want to smack myself because as far as problems go, it could be so much worse. I'm just pissed and scared. I'm so addicted to my computer/the internet, I don't know what I'll do without it. Thankfully, my brother is letting me borrow his for now, but it's not just the same. It doesn't have my programs or files and *sigh* I should just get offline and read my book.

I don't know if I'll be able to do my picture a day thing now, but I'll try. Which isn't really important, but whatever.

On the plus side, I really enjoyed White Collar last night. Even had a wonderful Peter/Neal dream.

I'm going to go make dinner.

When you get your computer back, you should download Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware program, to have it ready to go in case that happens again. It's pretty awesome.

Is that free? Where can I get it? At least with Geek Squad I'm getting a free 6 months of anti virus stuff which is cool, but this scare has convinced me that I need to really get a more permanent solution.

Yes, it's free. I'm not sure where I got it from. It should come up if you Google it. Apparently it's so effective that the malware is now coded with certain strategies to prevent you from downloading & installing it -- I wouldn't have been able to do it on my infected computer without the help of my dad's laptop.

The thing is, when something pops up and tells you to download a program, it does not necessarily mean you have a virus. It often is just a trick to get you to pay for something you don't need or to scare you into downloading something so that if you didn't have viruses or malware before, you will after you download the program.

True, but this was pretty different from what I usually see. And my brother looked it up on a forum and they were saying pretty bad things about it. I should say it was more than just a 'buy this' it had downloaded itself onto my computer and I couldn't uninstall it.

For the record, Avast! works well enough for me, and it's a free anti-virus whatsit. If you're in the market for one.

When it rains it pours. And I know it could be something really bad and I almost feel so bad about being so upset, but since I spend so much time on my computer, something like this really sucks :/
