I usually hate New Year's Resolutions because I feel like they're too much pressure, I never follow through with them, and then I feel guilty as hell. HOWEVER, there are a few things I need to get done/started and a new year is a good opportunity to start fresh. These are just the ones on the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of more/add details later.

* I need to lose weight. Weight Watchers Online is currently having a sale and I'm thinking about maybe doing that. My stepmom has done WW and has lost weight, gotten healthy, and has been able to keep it going. I might post about my attempts at getting healthy so I have a record and because if I feel like other people know what I'm doing, I'll feel like I can't just quit ;)

* I need to start really exercising/getting healthy/building muscle.

* I need to eat way less fast food (like none!) and drink less soda/more water.

* I need to get out of the house more often, even if it's just for a walk around the block. In my new Shape-Ups which are SUPER comfy!

* I need to get my driver's license. With my mom's back injury, I want to make sure I can help her if I need to. It would also make finding a job easier/more realistic. And, Toma thinks women who drive are sexy ;)

* I need to work on my sleep schedule. Go to sleep and get up earlier. Ideally I'd like to get up and take a walk/do yoga as soon as I wake up to make sure I don't go back to sleep.

* I need to start seriously thinking about what I want to do and get out there/go for it because it sure as hell ain't coming to me. [This one might be the hardest.]

* I need to save more/spend less. I was doing really well and then not so well. I have got to learn to be patient. Can't have everything right away.

* I want to read more and I guess by extension spend less time watching TV/wasting time online. Well, okay I don't know about the latter, but I still want to read more.

* I need to help out more at home. Carry my share of the weight better.

* I want to donate to charity/volunteer more.

* I want to be more environmentally friendly.

* I should probably work on being less anti-social. We shall see how well that turns out :P

As a worker for a volunteer center, I can tell you that if you DO get involved in volunteering, a lot of the other things you have listed will follow automatically. We promote volunteering as a great way to put structure back into your life, sort out sleep patterns, get exercise, help others, meet new people and be sociable but there is no pressure attached like going out and getting a paid job

Go for it hon, you wont regret it.

I think after the new year, I'll look around my area and see what's out there and who might be looking for some help. I've spent enough time wallowing in self pity. I'd like to be able to think outside myself and help as much as I can :)

I joined WW at the end of October and I've lost 10kg so far. Nothing has ever worked for me before so I'm really digging it! So my advice is join up, bb, you won't regret it. :D

Nice. Yeah, from what I've seen and heard from friends and family, WW seems like the best option. I'm still thinking about it, but I'm leaning towards yes. Sounds like my mother would be interested too and having the whole house be on the same page would be very helpful :D

The best thing I found with WW is that it's not that much of a change in lifestyle. I only do it online and it's just recording everything I eat and re-assessing what I'm putting in my mouth. It's something that's in the back of my mind all the time now and it feels like a permanent change, y'know? I think that's why it's working.

LOL I don't know whether this even makes sense, it's early New Years Day here and I'm still a little rough :)

i've always wanted to try WW, but i'm confused by that signup!! what does it actually cost per month?? because i was thinking of asking my grandpa to pay for a monthly data plan on my phone (something he's offered to do already), but WW seems like a way better use of his money HAHA.

ETA never mind i figured it out!!! I WAS WORRIED IT COST LIKE 50 DOLLARS A MONTH LMFAO. but are you only paying 17 dollars a month for the tools/trackers? STILL CONFUSED I'M A DUMBASS SRY

also definitely cut back on soda! at first it's a total drag, especially if you drink caffeinated sodas, but when i cut soda out entirely for a while, i was feeling so much better on a daily basis and my complexion was so good i was getting compliments from total strangers.

ps this:

* I need to start seriously thinking about what I want to do and get out there/go for it because it sure as hell ain't coming to me. [This one might be the hardest.]

is basically my life. summed up in one sentence. :(

From what I understand, that deal is just for the online tracker, not like meetings or whatever else WW offers. And you'd pay ~$50 total for 3 months and then $17 each month after that until you close your account. If you want to look into meetings, you can sign up here http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/mtf/index.aspx (MAIN SITE is http://www.weightwatchers.com/Index.aspx)

I just don't think meetings would be very doable for me right now, but I know they can be a big help when it comes to support and helping you stay on track. I know my step mom got charms for weight she'd lose and if you make your goal in a year you get free membership for life or something. At least that's how it used to be. Not sure about now.

Sorry for editing, but I've been browsing the WW site and here's maybe the place to start with comparing meetings vs. online with links to more info for both - http://www.weightwatchers.com/plan/apr/ways.aspx

I only drink diet sodas, so while they don't add calories, they also don't add anything of value. AND they take calcium out of my bones. Plus, water is always better. I know I've been able to give up soda before, so it can be done again.

Life is hard. Though sometimes I think that I make things harder by thinking too much and struggling when I could be going with the flow a little better. But that's just who I am and I need to learn how to work with that ;)

Getting out/eating less fast food and soda/excercising more - those things will all have a massive impact. And the 'getting out' thing is key. Even on a day when you can't excercise formally, just getting out and walking around briskly keeps the metabolism up.

For me, I like to excercise at the beginning of the day - by the end of the day, so many things can come up to derail my plans... (Plus, it wakes me up and makes me feel more energized for the day.)

That's my plan at least. I'll probably want to exercise in the morning as well just because I hate getting up and it'll help me hopefully wake up. I know it'll be hard at first but I need to do something. *nods*
