Why did you major archeology? How and when did you first get interested in it?
I've been in love with the past for as long as I can remember. And I've loved digging for answers just as long. I've wanted to be a mythologist, geologist, a paleontologist, an archaeologist, and an Egyptologist. And a marine biologist and astronaut thrown in there at some point. I love space and the ocean, but I was never a big fan of math and most sea creatures creep me out so I figured that would never really work. Greek mythology, Egyptian gods, pyramids, ancient cultures, rituals, stone tools... I love it all. When I was little, I read all about ancient cultures. It helped that I loved to read and my parents took me to museums all the time. I love science and I love trying to understand our past. There's so much we don't know, and I sometimes wonder just how much of what we think we know is wrong.
And despite my being interested in many, many things, I just kind of always knew I was going to study archaeology. For me, it was never really a question. Even if I don't continue with that path, I'll always consider myself an archaeologist (in training) :)
Where do you live? What's your favourite thing about where you live? What do you do for a living?
I was born and raised in San Francisco, California, but I now live in Daly City (mostly because it's too expensive to live in the city).
I'm not sure what my favorite thing is about where I live. Maybe that it's close to SF? I love that I'm a short bus ride away from BART which can take me just about anywhere I want to go. I love that I can find any kind of food I want here. I love that you can find just about anything in San Francisco, whether you want it or not, lol. I love the weather. I love the ocean. I love California. I love that I can visit Japan, China, Italy. I love that we have really good Mexican food. I love that we have a giant red bridge that gets eaten by giant previously frozen sharks in really bad sci-fi movies. I love that we are the future location of Starfleet. (Actually, I really love that one.) I could probably go on and on, and I don't even take real advantage of where I live.
As for what I do for a living, I can't really say yet. I can tell you that right now I have a job as assistant manager at Avenue. Come November, I'll have been working there for a year. But I won't have been an ASM for a year until February. Some days I like it better than others. Some days I just don't want to deal with customers anymore. I also don't like not having regular days off or a constant schedule. It makes planning things with friends difficult when they have the weekend free and I don't. As for what I'll be doing as a career choice... who knows at this point.
