seriously, i want a cookie. i smell cookie and i really want one right now. that or a burger. i wonder how much cash i have on me...

i meant to post a couple of days ago- on Tuesday :/ ah well. all i had really wanted to say was that i loved my shows :) i shall explain under a cut because i like cuts. LJ cuts that is. before i talk about my shows, let's talk school! ummmm.... i don't know how well i'll do in my classes, and i have 3 big papers coming up soon (one next week and two the next week- one i have to read another book for) but at least i get to write about a couple of interesting topics. in Visual culture, i'm going to be writing about fanart. i haven't quite decided which fandom yet though. hmmmm.... and in my TV class, i'm going to be writing about the filming style of House. also, in my Pop Culture class we read The Virginian (by Owen Wister) and i wish to quote a short section. The Virginian is supposedly the first real introduction of the American cowboy. we never learn his name, he is always The Virginian. he likes a school teacher in the town named Molly. the narrator of the story is a man from the East coast who becomes a close friend of the Virginian. the Virginian, the narrator, and Molly are riding horses together when:

'Why, there's a skunk,' said I, noticing the pretty little animal trotting in front of us at the edge of the thickets.
'Oh, where is it? Don't let me see it!' screamed Molly. And at this deeply feminine remark, the Virginian looked at her with such a smile, that, had I been a woman, it would have made me his to do what he pleased with on the spot.
(p 185)

hehe XD and that was written in 1904. oh, and the author dedicated it to his good 'friend' Theodore Roosevelt. sounds like unrequited love to me.

okay. now i'll talk about TV.

NCIS was fabulous! i really like the feel of it right now. i miss Kate, but Ziva is working out much better than i thought. i was like Abby in the beginning- not really wanting to give her a chance. but i'm glad i did. and Gibbs/DiNozzo makes me happy. hehe- his loyal St. Bernard. i just love the way Gibbs looks at Tony. and they just have this thing. beautiful. now if we could only get rid of the new director. don't like her. she's really annoying to me.

since House wasn't on, i watched Scrubs. i don't know what to say other than i just love this show. i think it is one of the funniest shows i've ever seen. most American sitcoms aren't that funny to me. they have their moments, but with Scrubs i just keep laughing. except the end of the second episode. that poor lady. she just got better only to get sick (i think) as she's about to leave the hospital? nooooooooo!

and Boston Legal. i only saw the first half because my friend called and i don't have TiVo :( but i recorded the second half so hopefully i'll get to watch it soon. Denny/Alan- those two are so cute! oh goodness. i don't have much more to say about that right now- they're just too cute :) Stargate meets Star Trek, they get together and decide to study law, they kick some legal ass and live happily ever after.

Deer! Oh, how wonderful...

I really like Ziva, but some aspects of how she is written annoys me, as a language geek. When you're as fluent an English speaker as she is, you know idioms. Period. It's like the writers think people still primarily learn to speak English in school, having no contact with American culture until they actually move to the US. Besides which, idioms are a part of learning a language. I know it's supposed to be funny, but since I know it's so unrealistic, it isn't to me. It's just annoying.

i can see that. i'm not even a language geek but i think it's getting old :) they correct her, what? a couple of times an episode? at least once. and she does seem to know quite a bit about American culture, so it would make sense that she would know at least most idioms.

and yay! for deer ;) except when they give you the evil eye ;)

hehe. no one can resist the smell of cookies... NCIS is a great solid show i think. fun to watch and interesting too. Scrubs is fantastic! one of the few shows where i'm always laughing (unless they have a serious moment of course) ^_^ and Boston Legal is pure crack XD William Shatner and James Spader with brilliant plots/cases/social commentary! plus it's funny as hell.

Yea, part of what I love about Scrubs is how each epi revolves around some lil lesson at the end, its emotional and I really like that in a show ^-^ And of course, the sappy slashiness in both Scrubs and Boston Legal make for a fun Tuesday nite! :D
