Merlin & meme

I've been so busy commenting on other people's entries about the newest Merlin ep that I haven't written one myself. I suppose this isn't any great loss because I'm really bad with words anyway ;)
I will say that it was a fantastic episode.
Merlin crying over the unicorn Arthur killed reminded me of Daniel crying over Reese when Jack shot her.
The rat!stew scene was deliciously funny and kind of kinky.
Arthur was a bit of a prat, but we also saw just how much he cares for his people, which was really nice to see. After all, he will be king one day and it's fun to see glimpses of the kind of king he'll be.
I loved the labyrinth scene - how Merlin and Arthur took two different paths, still walked side by side, and eventually their paths crossed.
Which brings us to the Princess Bride scene, which was just heartbreaking.
The way Merlin would do anything to protect Arthur, but when given the choice, Arthur wouldn't let Merlin. Arthur was probably remembering the whole poisoned chalice thing and how he realized he would do anything and everything to never have to go through that again. Which is saying something. That he wouldn't just risk his life for his servant (and his people, of course), but that he'd willingly and knowingly die for Merlin. But the thing that really broke my heart, besides Merlin begging to take Arthur's place, was Arthur saying that he was glad Merlin was there with him. For someone like Arthur to say that, with his upbringing, it just really says a lot about how much Merlin means to him and how much he really relies on him to be there for him and with him.
And we mustn't forget thecreepy old dude keeper of the unicorns basically saying that Arthur might have more than a few faults, but his love for Merlin is pure ♥ ♥ ♥
