How can we elect a President like Obama and still vote to prevent gay couples from adopting or gay people from getting married?

I know, unfortunately, that the fight for equal rights is a long and painful one, but this still pisses me off so much. I feel like crying right now, but for very different reasons than last night.

Also, Best-Selling Author Michael Crichton Dies :(

I thought that too. We elect a guy named Barack Obama as our president, but still manage to shoot down civil. Come so far, yet not far enough.

Blacks hate gays, too. So they can vote Obama and Yes on 8 with an easy conscience.

We like to forget that between 70-85% of America hates us.
Measures like this are a good reminder.

It's a depressing reminder. I often forget that there's more to the US than the Bay Area :/

At least it didn't win by a huge margin, unlike some props/laws/etc in other states :/

It's not over! That's all I have to say.

I wish I knew even a FEEBLE answer to that question, hon. I really do.

But one woman said on the news last night that even if it passes, they'll keep fighting it. & right now, that is what I'm going to believe in: one victory for the opposition, but that can only mean the next one has better odds for the fighters. It may be blind, stupid, foolish optimism on my part, but it's just what I have to believe in when it comes to this. We'll keep fighting & hopefully, thanks to our future president's call to the younger people in this country, we'll get even MORE people to fight this bullshit.

In the words of Le Tigre: 'One step forward, five steps back, we tell the truth, they turn up the laugh track.'
