Happy St. Paddy's Day!!

First of all, a funny video response to that racist UCLA girl from the other day. The chorus KILLS me as does this line: 'It's alright, Alexandra. I know you know nothing about tsunamis. I just want to make sure you know that it's not a type of sushi.' ♥

And here's an awesome video of Saturn using real pictures and not CGI.

I hung out with my friend today. Thankfully not until later in the afternoon so I could sleep in a bit. I read some of Fragile Things while she had her MRI. It was nice to get out though and I felt hungry enough to eat and enjoy some really good Chinese food. I also got a cupcake/cake holder/carrier thingy so I can transport my goodies a lot more easily now. Next thing I get will be a stand mixer because it would make my life a little easier and I could finally make my own frosting! Too bad they cost so much. At least it'll be something of an investment towards my future. I resisted buying nail polish at Sephora though so yay me ;)

I got a letter from the unemployment people and I have a phone interview scheduled for the 28th of this month. I hate that crap. I just feel all awkward talking on the phone and even though I'm not lying about anything, I still feel guilty for some reason. I'm just trying for the hell of it while I look around and look into maybe school. I'm not expecting anything really.

I don't really have any plans for tomorrow, or today I guess. I don't drink but my friends do so that kind of rules out a lot. I need to clean my room, paint my nails, I don't know. Friday I'm going out though. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's movie, Paul, comes out and I'm seeing it even if I have to go alone. Which I will be. Sunday though we're supposed to see my friend because her birthday is today but she's busy.

Oh! Does anyone have the audiobook of Good Omens that they could upload to Megaupload for me? I'm still kind of scared of Mediafire.

Sorry I keep spamming you with depressing stuff

So, while people in Japan, going through such terrible times, are being nice and showing compassion to each other, this is what people are seeing right now about America - 'UCLA Girl is going on a rant about how Asians talk on the phone in the library, Japan's Tsunami, and the "problem" of hordes of Asian people.'

I just don't have any words. She is a moron. A racist, arrogant, attention whore. I almost don't even want to share the link because I don't want her to get even more attention.

Another TERRIFYING tsunami video. A whole city/town just swept away in the water. The people watching as their homes and lives are being destroyed right in front of their eyes. I don't even want to think about any people or animals still there when it happened.

In less depressing news, I finally have corned beef and soda bread. I'm ready for St. Paddy's day now. More accurately, I'm ready for some reuben sandwiches now. *DROOL*

I'm also planning on going to Jtown tomorrow and picking up some candy and treats to make a little package to auction off. I'll post a link to that later.

If nothing else, watch the vid (1st link)

This 1st person video of the tsunami is terrifying. At first I was like, okay some water. But not a moment later I actually yelled 'Holy shit!' at my computer. I'm scared and I'm not even over there. Jesus. One thing I'm actually 'grateful' for, given the circumstances, is that so many people in Japan were able to film what happened. It's so easy to forget just how serious this kind of tragedy is when it's so far away from you. But so many people filming and sharing their experiences have really helped bring this event into our own homes. Our own lives. It shouldn't have to be that way, but unfortunately, for many it is.

It's not over yet

The news about Japan just keeps getting worse D:

[9:54 p.m. ET, 11:54 a.m. Tokyo] A meltdown may have occurred at at least one nuclear power reactor in Japan, the country's chief cabinet secretary, Yukio Edano, said Sunday.

He also said that authorities are concerned over the possibility of another meltdown at a second reactor.

Also a good place for news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12724953

Videos like the one below are so mind boggling. You can see the ground swaying back and forth and the water underneath coming through. You can hear the waves on what used to be solid land.

If you are able, give what you can to places like:

* Red Cross
* [livejournal.com profile] help_japan (I'm thinking of offering icons or something. I always feel weird, like my stuff isn't worth money, but I'd like to help anyway I can)
* Lady Gaga has Japan Earthquake Relief Wristbands. They're only $5 and "Little Monsters, show your support for Japan with this "We Pray For Japan" wristband! Choose your price to add an additional donation with your wristband. All proceeds go directly to Japan relief efforts."
* Groupon
* Japan Society (which also has links on how to find and contact people in Japan)

Watching CNN right now because an 8.9 earthquake and tsunami has hit Japan D:

Tsunami warnings in other countries. If you know anyone there, call them. Let them know. They might still be asleep and not know what's going on. Also, if you're in Hawaii or know anyone there, you can go here (http://www.scd.hawaii.gov/) and type in an address to see if you need to evacuate.

In her own creepy world there's a girl, there's a girl

One of these days I'll finish my advent calender ;)

I stayed up last night so I could listen to Mazza and Kazza live on the radio, playing some of their favorite tracks from this year. These were their choices... )

While waiting for their show, I watched Van Gogh: Painted with Words and proceeded to cry my eyes out. Take Vincent's story, in his own words, performed by Benedict Cumberbatch and you have one of the most heartbreaking things you've ever seen.

Charlie and the Doctor's Badger - Doctor Who Confidential - I LOVE THEM ALL A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT <3

Matt Smith was on "The Graham Norton Show" where we saw that he was wearing nail polish. My head!canon is that Karen painted his nails for him because that would make me RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY ♥_♥

I got to open one of my presents today and I got these two shirts XD

Also, just wanted to say that I've gotten cards from [livejournal.com profile] natacup82, [livejournal.com profile] fenellaevangela, [livejournal.com profile] justbolognese, [livejournal.com profile] kimberlyfdr, and [livejournal.com profile] beetle_breath. THANK YOU <3

Today I went downtown with my sister and stepmother. We had lunch and then went to a live performance of 'Hairspray' which I enjoyed a lot. After the play I got a churro. That alone makes it a day worth living ;D

Of American Gods and Doctor Who (and a smidgen of Benedict Cumberbatch)

I know I'm late to the party, but I just finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It took me forever but that's my fault. Once I really started, I didn't want to put it down. It didn't feel long at all. More like I didn't want it to end. I had no idea how it was all going to come together, but as I was reading the final chapters, it felt like a giant smack to my forehead. A big ol' D'OH! moment. However, I don't want to spoil anything if for some reason you haven't read it yet. All I'll say is what are you waiting for?!

Now, I've read that the UK version is longer than ours and I was wondering if anyone has read both or knows if there are any important differences.

--------------

Matt Smith on The Late Late Show was so adorably awkward. There is no better word for that man other than adorkable. You can watch the interview here.

--------------

Benedict Cumberbatch was looking mighty foine @ The Prince's Trust Gala.

Ok, so I'm feeling a little better now. Still anxious/nervous, but better. I have a tendency to overreact and get stuck inside my head. It's not a pretty place to be sometimes ;) But I went out with a friend, we got food, I bought 2 tops from Old Navy (which I feel guilty about now and I'm going to return at least one of them), and we talked for a bit. I've also watched Community and now I'll watch Never Mind the Buzzcocks and then some Merlin and just not think about things right now. I'll deal with things tomorrow and just one step at a time.

In other news:

* My son is gay. Or he’s not. I don’t care. He is still my son. And he is 5. And I am his mother. And if you have a problem with anything mentioned above, I don’t want to know you.

* Newest favorite Merlin vid (and ear candy). I'm not sure why, but I'm back into Merlin big time. I don't know if I'm just excited it's back or it's filling the space left by DW, or now Sherlock, but I'm loving it.

I feel like there's more, but I'm tired and my brain is all over the place at the best of times ;)

ETA: Noel and Jedward on NMTB was EXACTLY what I needed right now. They make 'Dappy look like Stephen Fry' LOL

It's great to be alive in Colma!

Friend and I went to see Paranormal Activity 2 last night. I haven't been to a movie on a Friday night in forever. I forgot just how crowded it could get. And how expensive it is. Anyhoo, the movie was surprisingly scary. More so than the first one. At least in my humble opinion. It's like they kept what was really creepy about the first one and left out the ridiculous bits that turned it from 'realistically' scary to bad sci-fi movie. I don't know if that sentence makes sense, but all I'm trying to say is that PA2 is a very creepy movie. And it explains the events of the first one to some degree. Although the idea of weird-ass things happening for no reason might actually be scarier. Whatever. Good movie. Large crowd with good energy. Fun times had by all.

And then on the way home, my friend tells me about something that happened near where I live. A cemetery worker in Colma, Calif., has discovered two plastic jars containing human hearts half buried in a remote section of the town's massive cemetery, according to police. Let's just say that last night wasn't the best night's sleep I've ever had ;)

The town of Colma has approximately 1,500 residents, but more than 1.5 million people are buried in the cemetery, leading to Colma to be dubbed the City of the Dead.

I should point out that we don't just have a cemetery. We have many.

So I don't know what is going on, but I'm in a damn good mood right now. I had to get up early today for a doctor's appointment, but it went well. I wasn't happy with the doctor I had chosen before so I had to look up another in the same area that took my insurance and was accepting new patients. Knowing nothing about who I was getting, I picked a name and made an appointment. I wish I had done that ages ago (you know, since I won't have a job or insurance in about a week). My previous doctor didn't really listen to what I was telling him and I felt like he was very dismissive. New doctor listened, took me seriously, I had blood drawn and tomorrow morning I have to call to set up an ultrasound. Unfortunately if there IS something, I won't have enough time to really do anything about it, but at least I can know one way or another? I don't know, but I definitely like this doctor A LOT better.

I listened to a new podfic on the way to the hospital. Had time to finish it and everything! Great story by [livejournal.com profile] messageredacted and great reading by [livejournal.com profile] pandarus. After the appointment (they took my blooooood), my mom was actually able to pick me up and drop me off at work saving me time and money (didn't have to wait/pay for bus). I got Quinos for lunch but still had time to kill so I went into Spirit (the Halloween store) and bought a fake black rose, a creepy laughing pumpkin keychain, and these awesome earrings.

Work was whatever.

Come home to all new Community (ABED. All caps.), It's Always Sunny, Sh*t My Dad Says (which I still haven't watched an episode of), Never Mind the Buzzcocks (NOEL!), and A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss (new to me). AND I find out that The Hobbit is a go and Martin Freeman is officially going to be Bilbo Baggins!!♥!!

Finally: ♥

NC-17 rating for Ryan Gosling's new movie? WTH could be so explicit, they want to give it an NC-17?

an assortment of stuff

‎So the last couple of days have been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me. Mostly down though. So more like a plummeting emotional elevator? I don't have the energy to go into it now, but at the moment, things are... okay.

Got a new manager at work though and I'm a little anxious. Only worked with her once so far. She seems alright, but I just don't really know. We'll see how it plays out I guess.

White Collar was wonderful. Loved the ending (and the bit right before, especially). Not happy it's time for the midseason finale already though. Psych was hilarious. Shawn being a fanboy was adorable.

Merlin's starting up again soon. I look forward to the insanity ;)

And I'm currently enjoying Grandma's House. Normally I wouldn't really be into this sort of stuff - I get TERRIBLE second-hand embarrassment - but I love Simon Amstell. I love that he can't really act and he looks like he's going to bust out laughing at any moment. It's all just part of his charm. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from the first episode. )

And in fandom collision news, in an interview with Benedict Cumberbatch (my brother actually asked me if that was his real name) here, he was asked who his favorite actors/actresses were and he responded:

Stephen Dillane, Mark Rylance, Simon Russell Beale, Eddie Redmayne, James McAvoy, Casey Affleck, Ryan Gosling, Jimmie Stewart, Adrian Scarborough, Harrison Ford, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Rod Steiger, Steve McQueen, Martin Sheen, Alison Janney, Sissey Spacek, Meryl Streep, Nancy Carroll, Juliette Binoche, Maggie Gylenhall, Amy Adams. There is an infinitely bigger list... God I hate lists!

Obviously I did the bolding there ;) But yeah. I don't know. That made me really happy. I 'know' that Ryan is a wonderful actor. I've seen it. And he was nominated for an Academy Award ffs. But I still see him as Sean Hanlon/Young Hercules. Either way, I'm proud of him.

And I'm proud of Toma! He is no longer considered a Jr. and now has his very own page

--------------

And for what it's worth: I won't be crossposting anything of mine or anyone else's to FB or Twitter. And while I doubt anyone would want to crosspost anything I've said, I'd rather you didn't. Right then. That's enough of that.

Holy crap, Matt and Karen are freakin' gorgeous.

And in other good news, I might be promoted to co-manager and my boss's vacation isn't until July, so there should be no problems with me going on my trip. I'm still going to start looking elsewhere, but it's nice to know think I'll have a job for a little while longer at least.

Clumsiness has been a disease which has plagued me my whole life.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I just want to watch and enjoy what happens on Doctor Who. On the other hand, I want to analyze everything we've seen and try to figure out what the big reveal is going to be at the end of the series. I'm avoiding spoilers. I don't want to actually know what's going to happen. But I can't help but get excited when I hear some of the theories people have cooked up already. And I love posts like this one (locked post in the [livejournal.com profile] doctoreleven community) - SERIES ARC DISCUSSION TIEMS! [SPOILERS UP TO Vampires Of Venice]

PS In case you somehow missed it, Matt and Karen continue to be two of the most adorable people in the universe <3

"I'm not a man!"
"That's my thermals look! Keeps me warm. Grandpa Doctor."
"There's too many fiddly bits on that for you to handle."
"Clumsiness has been a disease which has plagued me my whole life."
"Okay, don't take up my whole shot with that massive head."

Anyway, that's all. A bit uneventful round here. Might go see Iron Man 2 tonight with a friend. We'll see if she still wants to go after she gets off of work. I did just rewatch Ace Ventura for the first time in years and I was reminded of my crush on Jim Carrey. Apparently it had never quite gone away.
