I don’t know what you do But you do it well; I’m under your spell

I'm rather tired right now and I have a headache, but I'm staying on campus until at least 8:30 to go stargazing and get some extra credit for my 'Stars' class. (I'll do that another day. I need to sleep.) Speaking of which, I have a quiz in that class tomorrow and I'm not too worried about it, but it does involve some math and while it's high school math, it's been a while for me. I even went to the optional section today in order to get help, but the TA (while he might know his stuff) is a terrible teacher. I feel really bad for anybody who is taking this stuff for the first time. They won't learn a damn thing. From him. The actual teacher is cool. And English ^_^

I think my headphones were shocking me. I'm afraid to put them back on o_0

Yesterday in my Cult TV class, we watched the first episode of The Office (UK) and the teacher put the subtitles on. I keep forgetting that not everyone here watches British shows and can understand what is said. I just find it amusing that we needed closed captioning on a show that's in English. We might get to watch some Spaced tomorrow though!

Also, I was flipping through the channels last night and all of a sudden I see a mass of black and big hair. I pause. Go back a few channels. It's Russell Brand on Jay Leno! I can't wait for this movie =D Also, I think I need his book. His and John Barrowman's.

*nods*

Possible Heroes spoilers?

Noel! <3

Staff: Gwen would never have found the facility if Ianto hadn’t helped her. He was wrong to do that. But, of course, he was actually right in the end. There’s no way Gwen would have let it go. I should have trusted her with the information, but I knew what it would do to her. Sometimes, the only way to realise that you shouldn’t look behind that door is to actually go and look. Gwen learned that. Nikki learned that. We all did.

Other Staff issues: Seeing Gwen experience it for the first time took me right back to when I first heard that terrible scream. After Gwen had gone home, I just held on to Ianto for a couple of hours, as tightly as I could.

Oh yeah, and today is [livejournal.com profile] danicoyaluvr's 22 birthday.

I don't think they are. If anything, we might need a cultural dictionary for some of the references, but it's still (for the most part) the same bloody language. Then again, I've been watching British shows for years, so I don't know. Maybe it's just us Californians?

It kind of weirded me out to see him in the commercials (and Jay Leno and I think he's hosting something this weekend on Comedy Central) too. I'm so used to having to download anything with him in it ^_^

I was thinking the other day just how weird it would be (for me if not for the rest of the states) if Noel and Julian were over here doing interviews and whatnot. I mean, I love them, but I wonder what the reactions would be from people who had never heard of them...

I love me some scruffy weirdos! I guess I can sort of understand where people are coming from though. I can't remember what I thought of Russell when I first saw him, but I know it took me a little while to warm up to him. Of course, now I adore the man, but it wasn't always like that.

And I really hope the Boosh tours over here. I know they say they are and I want to believe them, but I don't want to get my hopes up just yet. But if/when they do, I will be going to as many shows as I possibly can. I just hope they get a good reception over here because they deserve it <3

You get to watch The Office and Spaced for a class? Sounds like my kind of education!
It is deeply sad that it need to be watched with the subtitles on though...*eek*
I saw Russ' interview on the Tonight Show, and he just wasn't his usual self really...I assume he was just really nervous. I hope he isn't toning himself down just for the sake of American viewers!

I'm also glad to see you enjoyed the Noel post......=D

[identity profile] spacemonkeyluvn.livejournal.com 2008-04-10 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not sure how much it needed to be. The teacher just automatically did because other people he had showed it to had some problems. I don't like them on because then I end up reading them even when I don't need to.

I really hope Russell doesn't tone himself down. Especially not for the sake of us Americans. There are plenty of us to love him just the way he is ^_^

I did enjoy the Noel post, so thank you for that. A day can always be improved with a little Fielding. I'm trying really hard not to make a Mike joke. Mike = <3

Maybe its just that I've gotten used to it, but I can't imagine having to watch anything British with subtitles. Its strange because my uncle that hobbies seven languages (or maybe that's why), had a horrible time understanding the Boosh when we watched it. That class still sounds like so much fun.

It was strange at first, to see Russell on Leno but it was a good thing. And his mum was there! It was cute. :)

Me neither! But then I forget that I'm not like most of the people I know (in RL, that is).

The class is a lot of fun though. I'll be writing 2 or 3 papers about the Boosh and it's fandom. Should be fun. I wonder if we'll get to bring in examples in a presentation... That could be interesting ^_^

I need to actually watch the whole interview with Russell. I came in about half way through. Actually, I don't have class until 4:30 so I guess I know what I'll be doing.

Damn those British people speaking English! Don't they know we only speak American over here? Apparently. *facepalm*

It amused me as well. But also annoyed me because even when I can understand what's being said, if the subtitles are on, I end up reading them instead of watching the show. Grrrr! ^_^

I consider these blogs completely canon <3

Until they write something I don't agree with ;)

I just wish we actually saw these little moments.

Lol, at first I would have given ANYTHING to have subtitles on the British shows I was watching, since I grew up on American television. But now it just seems so natural, since quite a lot of what I listen to/watch is British. I am quite amused however that AMERICAN people would need subtitles. :)

OMG Russell was on Jay Leno! YAY! There is still no release date for Forgetting Sarah Marshall here, I think I may have to resort to downloading it when it comes out. :/

[identity profile] spacemonkeyluvn.livejournal.com 2008-04-12 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, I don't know if our class actually needed it. The teacher just automatically put them on just in case. I can't see why they would be necessary, but then again, I'm so used to it now.

I hope FSM comes out in your area, but if downloading it is the only way to see it, then so be it. I just hope there will be a good quality copy and not just a cam version you can watch.
