Last night I watched a Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper movie called Murder By Decree and I actually really enjoyed it. The story is basically From Hell but this movie came first. And has Holmes and Watson. Speaking of Watson, I loved him. He wasn't Stupid! He was funny and adorable and even had a BAMF moment. Despite it being a pretty dark movie, there was some sweet humor in there too. I don't want to spoil all the good bits, but here is my favorite scene. It won't let me embed so you'll just have to watch it on YouTube. Worth it though. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this movie, even if it's just for the Holmes/Watson friendship ♥_♥

That is my favourite Holmes movie, and not just because it's part Canadian and has two awesome Canadian actors in it in the form of Christopher Plummer and Donald Sutherland. The Holmes-Watson relationship was right on the money, and Watson wasn't portrayed as a bumbling stupidhead. (Why did the Rathbone movies portray him that way? He wasn't like that in the books AT ALL!)

I know. I will never understand why anyone would make Watson an idiot. He definitely wasn't like that in the books. And it's not like you need to make Holmes look even smarter!

That in of itself is reason to rent the movie. I'm glad they didn't make Watson a bumbling oaf. I hope Netflix has this movie available.

I will NEVER understand the need to make Watson a bumbling oaf. He wasn't like that in canon and Holmes would never have bothered with him if he had been. WATSON IS A BAMF. TRUFAX.
